This Hydroelectric turbine and Generator are installed on a Potable Water system which serves a portion of the Island of Hawaii. The new turbine system parallels the existing PRV Station to sustain water levels in the DWS Reservoir located just downstream of the turbine. This installation can switch easily between PRV Valve operation and Turbine operation all automatically. This is an example of an in-line hydroelectric turbine installation on a public water system, capturing energy that would be otherwise lost in a Pressure Reducing Valve and creating power to be sold back to the electric utility.
